Florida cruise vacation fans will remember Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas which sailed 7-day Caribbean itineraries from Port Canaveral before being replaced by the newer Freedom of the Seas. Mariner moved on to the West Coast but the cruise line announced Thursday that the ship would be redeployed to the Mediterranean in 2011.

The move leaves the West coast with no service from Royal Caribbean and continues a trend to move ships to more profitable waters. Mariner of the Seas addition to the Mediterranean makes a record-setting 11th ship in the area for the Summer 2011 season.

The move cuts short an already-booked season for Mariner. The cruise line is offering full refunds plus a $200 per stateroom onboard credit when those canceled rebook on either an earlier sailing of Mariner. Guests can also rebook the same 2011 sailing date they had on Mariner of the Seas for Voyager of the Seas sailing from Galveston.

Too big to fit through the Panama Canal, Mariner of the Seas will sail a series of South America cruises starting January 16, 2011 before crossing the Atlantic. Once there, the ship will sail seven-night Western Mediterranean and 12-night Mediterranean Holy Land and Egypt Itineraries.
